Since this is pretty standard for the kind of portraits I do, I just go straight to color. But for multi-figure compositions, or whenever I don't know exactly what the final product will look like, I do a full-scale underpainting.Paolo Riverahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11088106827920011644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8959702978311327862.post-16139354795720082752014-06-25T09:14:19.103-07:002014-06-25T09:14:19.103-07:00Thanks You! I use Holbein Special black or Pelikan Drawing Ink A, both of which are waterproof.Paolo Riverahttps://www.blogger.com/profile/11088106827920011644noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8959702978311327862.post-78592259227691939772014-06-20T12:40:14.135-07:002014-06-20T12:40:14.135-07:00Hey Paolo,

Do you use acrylic over the watercolor? Also I noticed some of your work is ink and watercolor. Do you ink and then use watercolor or visa versa? Every time I paint over my inks the ink spreads. Even though it says waterproof on the bottle. Thanks for your time! All your work is great and inspiriting. I show it to all my students as well.
