Timelapse of Paolo Rivera Painting Daredevil #1 from The Comic Archive on Vimeo.

A big thanks goes out to Mike Furth, whose site, The Comic Archive, is a wonderful resource of creator interviews. Mike set everything up and I just did my thing. Wish I could work that fast in real life.

  4. Cool timelapse. What was that "mini-palette" device stuck to your board (not the kneaded eraser), and is it magnetic?

  5. Matthew—love your blog! To answer your question, it's 2 magnets holding a spare piece of bristol that I use to shape the brush and test color. I wrote a post about it here. I think I also mention it in the studio tour (part 1 or 2) at The Comic Archive.

  7. Great work, Paolo! How long did it take you to paint the cover in real time? The background is so intricate, it's mind-boggling!

  9. Thanks, Ian. This time lapse only includes the beginning of the background process, which I had to finish up here in Florida. But according to my calendar, I spent 55 hours on it, from layout to scanning and post-production. Of course, the pose and idea had occurred to me years ago, so I already had a rough sketch of what I wanted.

  10. Awesome time lapse Paolo! You're going to have to do more of those! Unless it gives away your secrets...

  11. Thanks, Paul. I have no secrets—just potential lawsuits.
