More Anatomy

Friday, February 15, 2008

Just a quick Friday update. This is yet another warm-up sketch from the ecorché model that stands guard over my desk. I simply can't get enough practice when it comes to anatomy, so I have this, along with a wall chart, to always remind me of what I still don't know.

Hope everyone had a good Valentine's Day.

  1. Hey Paolo,
    Very cool.

I don't remember how I linked to your blog a couple of days ago,
but I enjoy seeing your work.

I like that cut away of the FF HQ.

I specially like LEARNING FROM YOU in the fact that you still stop to practice with the basic anatomy.

I actually have a 12" model of the skeletal system (from a while back)that I'm going to put by my desk.

I've just started drawing again (or trying to) and it's very insightful to see what I should be drawing (from life) instead of trying to 'run before wailking'.

I'll definitely stop back by from time to time.

  2. Hey Paolo,

Thank you so much for posting that link. I was having such a difficult time finding one. I had seen it in a photo of Frank Cho's studio once and after that I said I got to have one, but was never able to find one. Beautiful anatomical studies, they look great, it definitely beats having to make the trip to the bodies exhibit. Thanks again!

  3. Also I was sort of curious, which version do you have V.1, V.2, or V.3?

  4. Emilio,
Glad you found your way over here. Where did you find your skeleton model? I only ask because I've seen some bad ones... my school store sold one that was a required part of a drawing class my freshmen year at RISD, but I thought it was so poorly proportioned that I didn't buy one. Eventually, when I was working on Ghost Rider, I just sculpted a skull that I was happy with. Hopefully, I'll get around to posting pics soon.

    Manny,
I have version 2. I had wanted the top model, but the sculptor talked me out of it at the NY Comic Con. He convinced me that the flat gray is best for the study of form... but the painted version sure looks pretty.

  5. Paolo-
I think I got it @ a book store or educational toy store some 10-15 years ago. It came in pieces that I had to assemble (snap together) onto a red base that has a plastic dome over it.
It also has a book which I'll have to find w/info on the human body.

I almost want to say it's like the "how to play harmonica" or "how to Juggle" type series that has a little net bag attached to the book.

I'll research it some and give you a heads up.
